Adventure Chat #28 - Ageless Adventures

When I began participating in Twitter chats I loved the amount of interacting and great information I was seeing. I also noticed that most chats were about travel. While I love traveling, I am more of an adventure junkie and enjoy local activities like camping and hiking and the occasional road trip. So, I started my own Twitter chat called #adventurechat on Monday’s at 10 am pst. It’s a fun and informative way for me to learn from everyone else’s adventures. I’ve had more than one person ask me for a blog transcript so here we go. I’ve taken out all retweets and responses that are confusing as well as putting all Q and A’s in order. While the pictures were beautiful I do not have the right to include them here but they are all a part of the full transcript on For my 28th chat, I had co-host @TTGLOBE4L to talk about Ageless Adventures.  Here are the questions and transcripts from the chat.

  1. How has travel style changed over the years?
  2. Have you ever passed on an adventure opportunity you wish you had said yes to?
  3. What 'adventure item' would you most like to tick off your bucket list in the coming year?
  4. Have you become more or less adventurous over the years?
  5. What words of inspiration would you share to encourage the maturing individual to embark on a travel adventure?
  6. What travel tip have you learned that you wish your 18-year-old self had known?
  7. Are there any trips you consider out of the realm of people of a certain age?
  8. What is your best bargain adventure experience?
  9. What is your best break-the-bank adventure experience?
  10. Swimming with dolphins or diving with sharks?

@monicagoesshow Hey guys! Welcome to another #adventurechat! Who's ready to talk Ageless Adventures?

@TTGLOBE4L: Hi. I'm so looking forward to chatting with you all and hearing your answers to the questions we have for you.

@TTGLOBE4L: Ok let's get things started. Q1. How has your travel style changed over the years? #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: A1. Less rushed with a focus on things I can really enjoy. Oh and more upmarket! No more hostels!

@monicagoesshow: A1: I create an agenda still but try to go with the flow more. Also, I push myself out of my comfort zone more #adventurechat

@WildlifeDest:  A1. Less rushed with a focus on things I can really enjoy. Oh and more upmarket! No more hostels!

@BenOnAdventures: it's generally been the same but I love to try new things. #AdventureChat

@tinberrytravels: A1. From family holidays to long term solo travel to shorter term solo travel. Only been day trips recently.

@tripcipe: I've gotten more comfortable traveling on my own, and find more peace in solo travel now! I take more time for myself now #adventurechat

@s_raoks: A1 #Slowtravel as opposed to ticking off al the #mustsee places. Ok to change plans & owning up to it #adventurechat

@WildlifeDest: A1. Agreed - much more relaxed / focused. I want depth when I travel, really get to know the area

@JosiahSkeats: A1. I have much more focus on getting off the tourist trail and meeting the locals. #adventurechat

@s_raoks: A1 Unlike earlier, now I like revisiting an old place cz it gives me a new ( different) perspective #adventurechat

@CeecesTravel: A1: I have become a lot more aware of the experiences can have "off the book" #AdventureChat

@TTGLOBE4L: Q2. Have you ever passed on an adventure opportunity you wish you had said yes to? #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: A2: Sea kayaking in Cork last week because of my back injury! @jjkayaking #adventurechat @monicagoesshow

@BenOnAdventures: personally I haven't because I normally take those chances. I've seen others miss out though.

@monicagoesshow: A2: I’m usually the one everyone says no to! I’m always up for an adventure! Maybe some solo travel though #adventurechat

@tripcipe: A2 I'm sure there are some things I missed out on but I don't look back or regret my travels.. be positive and dont look back

@WildlifeDest: Meeting strangers is one adventure I never want to pass up. Best part of travel! #AdventureChat

@s_raoks: bk in days durin family trips, I'd crib if parnts chngd plans inb/w. Nw, I wait for opportunities to change plans

@CeecesTravel: A2: Yes, one too many! Will not make that mistake again, best adventures have been unplanned

@JosiahSkeats: That's an interesting way of looking at the question. Do you notice the places change much or just your attitude? #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A2. I think I should have done more travel while at uni rather than working so much. There was so much opportunity to travel.

@visitcatalonia: A2. You can't pass on the many adventures in Catalonia: rafting, climbing, skiing, trekking, etc #AdventureChat

@DonNadeau: A2. As a backpacker, invited to visit the Dalai Lama at his retreat. I stupidly didn't! Didn't want to lose prepaid airfare #AdventureChat

@s_raoks: A2 Missing a chance at #parasailing during college days in Goa cz I was too scared #AdventureChat

@WildlifeDest: for me both Places evolve & so do attitudes & reflects on how u understand the place #ADventureChat

@s_raoks: The way I see now has much larger view or with better understanding about the place. It's the attitude . #adventurechat

@I_Love_Tripping: A2 Scuba Diving in Sharm El Sheikh. It is getting dangerous there, wish i had done it then! #adventurechat

@I_Love_Tripping: A2: Yes, one too many! Will not make that mistake again, best adventures have been unplanned #…

@TTGLOBE4L: Q3. What 'adventure item' would you most like to tick off your bucket list in the coming year? #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: A3: Trekking up volcanoes in #CostaRica and zip lining through the rainforest as I hear it is amazing!

@TravelAtWill: Are you ever too old for roller coasters? #adventurechat

@monicagoesshow: NEVER! I have an annual pass to Disneyland! #adventurechat

@daredevilakshay: A3: Paragliding and bungee jumping. Two things which need to be struck off immediately.

@monicagoesshow: A3: This next year I want to go to Lake Havasu, Portland, and possibly Canada. Skydiving and surfing are big ones for me #adventurechat

@tripcipe: #adventurechat Looking to check off all of the things that make my adrenaline pump. Skydiving, bungee jumping, paragliding etc. Cant wait!

@JosiahSkeats: I would like (and will) continue my adventure cycling around the world, from Turkey to Australia.

@s_raoks: A3 Do a midnight #Fullmarathon ( in miles) for the birthday #AdventureChat

@visitcatalonia: A3. Someone said paragliding? We can help you with that! #AdventureChat @daredevilakshay @TTGLOBE4L @monicagoesshow

@TTGLOBE4L: Q4. Have you become more or less adventurous over the years? #adventurechat @monicagoesshow

@monicagoesshow: A4: I’m more adventurous for sure but I’m also more afraid of everything so it’s an extra obstacle to overcome #adventurechat

@tripcipe: A4 I've become more adventurous, traveling on my own definitely helped me. Realizing I can't really go wrong was a huge step #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: Great thing about getting a bit older is sometimes those fears go. Maybe next year #adventurechat

@CeecesTravel: A4: 100% MORE! Its like the travel deprivation has only increased the crave :-) #AdventureChat Let's GO!!!!!

@livinlavidarose: A4: More adventurous in the sense that I want to travel to more exotic destinations these days #adventurechat

@JosiahSkeats: A4. More adventurous! Every trip I realise I can do more than I think, and the world is safer! #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A4. I’d like to say the same but now with greater consideration of costs of adventures and travel. More things to consider.

@TTGLOBE4L: I skydived there. New Zealand has a habit of turning everyone into an adrenaline junkie #adventurechat

@I_Love_Tripping: A4 I have matured over the years to realize not to let go of any opportunity to explore! Definitely MORE

@s_raoks: A4 More adventurous fr sure bt yet to overcome the fear of 'what if' #adventurechat @monicagoesshow @TTGLOBE4L

@monicagoesshow: Wanna co-host an #adventurechat? DM me and let’s get it started!

@TTGLOBE4L: Q5. What words of inspiration would you share to encourage the maturer individual to embark on a travel adventure? #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: A5: Travel is a great age leveller. You will make new friends old and young! #adventurechat @monicagoesshow

@BenOnAdventures: you're only on this planet a little over 80 years, you might as well use those years to the fullest.

@monicagoesshow: A5: I would say that you can find adventures that suit every age and level. Start small and go with people if you’re nervous #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A5. Make your own decisions. Solo travel. Don’t be a tag along or just adopt others views of places.

@CeecesTravel: A5: Its cliche but we really do regret the things we didn't do more than what we did #AdventureChat :-) #Travel

@s_raoks: A5 First, accept that you're on your own. And that it's okay to not be socially active all the time. #adventurechat

@I_Love_Tripping: A5 I am a 'mature' individual and i would say HOP ON, YOU CAN SLEEP WHEN YOU ARE DEAD! Enjoy the ride till then! #adventurechat

@WildlifeDest: A5. Remember:This is YOUR adventure. No need to impress, push ur own envelope but at ur own speed

@visitcatalonia: A5. We love this quote... and it might just be perfect for those with adventurous hearts #AdventureChat

@TTGLOBE4L: Q6. What travel tip have you learned that you wish your 18 year old self had known? #adventurechat

@monicagoesshow: A6: That it’s ok to go alone but at the same time always let someone know where you’re going!

@JosiahSkeats: I agree completely! It's about taking that first scary step into the unknown! Get the confidence... and GO! #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A6. You don’t need to pack everything. Just cause it fits doesn’t mean you need to take it.

@CeecesTravel: A6: Don't stress the small stuff, let go a little, start travelling as early as possible :-) #AdventureChat :-)

@s_raoks: A6 Food is mre than necessary. Perfectly normal 2 go lengths of a place fr amazin food it has 2 offr #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: Q7. Are there any trips you consider the realm of people of a certain age? #adventurechat

@TTGLOBE4L: A7: I used to think cruises were for old people, but I went on one and I don't consider myself old so no.

@CeecesTravel: A7: I always thought that was the deal with cruises, but know now its not at all :-) #AdventureChat

@s_raoks: A7 Used to think the older you get, better the traveling mode has to be. But I love trains journeys #adventurechat

@monicagoesshow: A7: I worry about being able to do the big hikes I enjoy as I get older or start having kids #adventurechat

@CeecesTravel We tend to think that if we're not online all the time, we are missing out SO MUCH. Like we need 2 knw everythn #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A7. Never. Anyone should be free to follow their passions wherever they lead them.

@visitcatalonia: A7. Catalonia has alternatives for everyone, trips & adventures with no age limit!

@TTGLOBE4L: Q8. What is your best bargain adventure experience? #adventurechat @monicagoesshow

@TTGLOBE4L: A8: An hotel in Vietnam was amazing with welcome drinks, great room and balcony for £6. #adventurechat

@monicagoesshow: A8: Hiking! Super cheap and you can just go (with a little gear of course) and camping if it’s overnight =)

@CeecesTravel: I love letting go and being off the grid, there is so much to explore in my province alone, weekends away are great #AdventureChat

@tinberrytravels: A8. Local travel. Finding adventure on your doorstep. I’ve been exploring Central Scotland lately:

@CeecesTravel: A8: Walking, hiking, getting lost, for example a place I walk often: #AdventureChat :-

@JosiahSkeats: The art of the microadventure! Great pics on your blog by the way! #adventurechat

@visitcatalonia: A8. Hikking the Catalan Pyrenees might be one of the best bargain adventures in the area! #AdventureChat

@tinberrytravels: Thank you! There's always adventure locally we tend to just forget to explore our own countries/regions.

@tinberrytravels: I love disappearing off on a hike somewhere. An excellent bargain adventure. #adventurechat

@CeecesTravel: A9: Ha ha ha can I insert my RTW idea's here? There is SO much I want to do, not yet done #AdventureChat

@JosiahSkeats: A9. For me it would have to be climbing Everest! Can't imagine standing on the top of the world.

@TTGLOBE4L: A9: Staying in the Masai Mara in a swank tent with hippos in the river below and baboons skipping across the roof #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A9. Travelling #Australia broke the bank for me but I’d love to go to the #Antarctic one day. There’s no cheap way to do that

@TTGLOBE4L: Q10. Swimming with dolphins or diving with sharks? #adventurechat @monicagoesshow

@TTGLOBE4L: A10: Tough one but probably sharks!! I like the thrill although I do love dolphins! #adventurechat

@monicagoesshow: A10: Can I say both? Probably sharks just for the adrenaline factor but definitely both! #adventurechat

@tinberrytravels: A10. Swimming with dolphins.

@s_raoks: A10 Swimming with dolphins while searching for sharks ? :D #adventurechat

@CeecesTravel: A10 Neither personally both go against my ethics.Only exception is dolphins that surf with surfers

@monicagoesshow: You guys are amazing! Again, to be an awesome co-host like @TTGLOBE4L DM and we’ll get you your own #adventurechat
